TUMI

Medical Mission to Peru

Starting in 2016, student volunteers from the American School of Barcelona (ASB) have been working in collaboration with doctors and medical students from the Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) as they provide free basic healthcare to impoverished Peruvians in Iquitos and in remote river communities along the Amazon Basin. The volunteers from ASB work closely with them by translating for both the medical staff and the patients. This allows for more effective and precise communication between the doctor and the patient; something that is essential and can save lives.

Days FOR Girls

Days For Girls is an organization that strives to find an innovative, efficient and sustainable solution to the challenge many young women around the world face; feminine hygiene. For women living in poverty, menstrual care is not part of their education, and the products are either not available or not sustainable. That is why Days For Girls travels around the world to provide these women with Days for Girls (DfG) Kits. DfG Kits consist of multiple reusable menstrual products that can be reused for up to three years. In Peru, volunteers from ASB aided the Days For Girls team in educating the young women on menstruation and female anatomy, as well as how to use the DfG Kits.
